Associate Action Platform
Product StrategyHow might we engage our associates to constantly participate in shaping the company’s direction?
Challenge
A multinational company in the food and beverage industry recently redefined its purpose statement and sought to gauge the perception of its employees through a new internal platform. Leadership wanted to engage with its employees and consult them to inform its decision-making process.
Approach
We worked with a team of senior members to run a design sprint to define the objective for this platform and how to launch it successfully. We looked to understand the perspective of different associates across segments and contexts (such as office, manufacturing site, or service center) and how they participate in the company’s strategy definition.
Workshop participants worked with interview questions in pairs. They were asked to articulate the perspective of associates providing input, as well as those of the leadership teams receiving associate input.
The teams transformed their prioritized ideas into concepts and rich prototypes using techniques such as sketching, storytelling, and role-playing. They then presented their prototypes to different user panels to learn from them and quickly iterate their solutions.
Outcome
The scope of the solution evolved from capturing sentiment, to empowering associates to live the company purpose. The opportunity was defined as allowing associates to both learn how others live the purpose and how they might get involved in their particular context.
The result was a solution that integrated naturally into the company’s digital ecosystem since associates felt they had sufficient digital channels with which to interact. Instead, the prioritized features would be added to existing touchpoints. This same team set out to carry out agile design sprints to test and learn from regions and segments.
